| For Immediate Release Legacy Foundation Grant Awards for Winter 2007 Lake County, Indiana (December 4, 2007)The Legacy Foundation Board of Directors approved grants from the Lake County Community Fund for the following projects: Indiana University Northwest Department of Performing Arts$4,000 for Jumpstart to College Theatre which will be an annual seven week (June-August) academic summer program in the performing arts, open to all high school juniors and seniors who meet IU entrance requirements. Students will earn 1-3 transferable college credits and participate in staging a fully realized musical production under the auspices of Theatre Northwest. Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center$5,000 to support the implementation of the 3-5 year plan for the Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center to attain its vision of being the premier provider of environmental education programs featuring the Indiana dunes. Northwest Indiana Regional Planning Commission$5,000 for a public education and participation pilot program relating to public access to the Lake Michigan Shoreline in Lake County. Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northwest Indiana$17,529 to increase the agency’s capacity to better serve clients seeking help with debt management, foreclosure, housing education and financial literacy and improve reporting capacity. The Legacy Foundation Board of Directors approved grants from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund for the following projects: Youth Family Community Renewal$10,000 for a music education program deconstructing the destructive aspects of Hip-Hop utilizing lecture, listening and hands-on music production. Jack & Shirley Lubeznik Center for the Arts$10,000 for collaboration between the Lubeznik Center for the Arts and three Gary Charter Schools integrating standards based arts activities into the standard curriculum. Friends of Emerson$4,800 to support “Visiting Artists” project with Gary based jazz legend Arthur Hoyle and members of his quintet. Instrumental music majors will receive personal instruction from world class jazz musicians. The next opportunity to submit grant proposals is March 1, 2008.
